Do You Do This?
Often when I am watching a movie at home and there is a foreboading that something negative is about to happen I’ll get up and find something else to do until the time I think it takes for that negative thing to be over. Earlier I got to thinking; how many people do this in life? How many of us know that there is something negative about to happen and we change the perverbial channel. We either change the subject, get up and walk away, or do anything else to avoid the inevitable.
How will we ever learn or even be able to appreciate the good in our lives if we do not learn to accept the bad? We can’t avoid all the negativity in life for whatever reasons we choose not to see or hear it. We have to learn to face it head on and move on from there. It’s like trying to avoid a lesson we were supposed to learn but refuse to take the test. If we keep avoiding it we’ll never get the lesson. Negativity, no matter the amount of it in life that we recieve, it is a part of life. It is par for the course and if we continually try to avoid it, how much fulfillment can we really get from the journey; and how will we ever get to the real destination.
Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict — alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence. – Dorothy Thompson
